After the holiday festivities, it's time for the fifth season. The craziest time of the year in Rijeka and its surroundings traditionally begins on 17 January, the Feast Day of St. Anthony, and lasts until Ash Wednesday on 6 March when Pust will be sacrificed for everything bad that has happened in the past year. The holiday decorations will be replaced with ribbons and flags as the carnival madness commences. The first step of this unforgettable journey is the Rijeka Carnival Queen Pageant and the handover of the key to the city to the carnival-goers. Once again this year, there will fun and dancing galore, as well as countless festivities and new masks during the carnival period. We'll get to participate in the Paris - Bakar Costumed Car Rally, snowboard in downtown Rijeka and have fun in costumes far into the night. Kids will showcase their costumes on 16 February, while the grand finale - the International Carnival Parade is scheduled two weeks later on 3 March. Stock up on goodwill and positive energy and come to the Rijeka Carnival where you will only have to do one thing - be whatever you want to be!
